CLARK E. DAVIS
SUPERINTENDENT
Clark
Davis, Superintendent of the Fairfield Union Schools for 20
years, passed away on May 8 following a battle with pulmonary
fibrosis, a lung disease. Mr. Davis was a tremendous leader but
most of all a great friend. We extend our condolences to his
wife and family at this time.
Mr. Davis was born on Sept. 19, 1944, in
Vinton County, to the late Delbert P. and Frieda B. Moore Davis.
He was superintendent for Fairfield Union Local School District
for the past 20 years. His past accomplishments in education
include superintendent and assistant superintendent at
Pickerington Local Schools, high school principal at
Bloom-Carroll Schools, junior high principal at Logan City
Schools, elementary principal for Canal Winchester Schools,
elementary principal at Logan Elm Schools and social studies
teacher at Canal Winchester schools. He also worked for Diamond
Power Specialty Corp. as a personnel staff assistant, and F&R
Lazarus in Columbus as assistant employment manager and training
manager. His education experience includes graduate of
Starr-Washington High School Class of 1962, Ohio University,
with a Bachelor of Science in Education Class of 1966, Ohio
State University, with a Master of Arts in Educational
Administration, 1971 and post graduate honors to earn
certification as superintendent. Clark was a member of the First
United Methodist Church, served as chairman of Pastor Parish
Relations Committee and Administrative Board, Buckeye
Association of School Administrators since 1978, chair for the
South Central Ohio Insurance Consortium, Ohio Coalition for
Equity and Adequacy where he served as a charter/founding member
of organization in 1991 and currently served as a member of the
executive committee and has been active and served on numerous
committees and sub-committees. He was appointed by the Fairfield
County Commissioners to the Fairfield County Children's Services
Board 1992-1995. He served as a member of the Fairfield County
Community Planning Committee 2000-2002. Clark has served on the
Fairfield Medical Center Advisory Committee and was a Rushville
Union Lions Club member since 1987.
He is survived by his wife, Mary L. Davis;
son, Gregory (Amy) Davis of Granville; daughter, Melissa
(Jeffrey) Dinan of Lancaster; seven grandchildren, Lindsey
Davis, Joshua Davis, Riley Davis, Elijah Davis, Annamarie Dinan,
Jack Dinan and Luke Dinan; two brothers, Bobbie Dean (Janet)
Davis of Creola and James K. (Jan) Davis of Brookville; sister,
Marilyn (Robert O.) Jepsen of Canal Winchester; sister-in-law,
Marjorie Davis of Logan; several nieces and nephews; aunt,
Florence Olive Davis of Lancaster; cousin, Bonnie (Donnie)
Herring of Gibisonville; and mother-in-law, Wavalene Wyskiver of
Union Furnace.
He was preceded in death by his parents;
brother, Don L. Davis of Logan; aunts, Myrtle Davis and Evelyn
Kuhn; and uncle, Robert Moore.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at
First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Brown
officiating. Burial will follow in New Fairview Cemetery,
Rockbridge. Friends may visit from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Frank
E. Smith Funeral Home, Lancaster, and one hour prior to the
service at the church on Saturday.
Given that the church parking lot will
likely fill, the lot of the Rising House (corner of High and
Mulberry Streets) has been reserved for funeral parking. The
parking lot of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church (corner of Broad and
Mulberry Streets) and the Stanbery School lot (on Mulberry
Street east of High) will also be available for overflow
parking.
